New Class Offered to Expand Singers’ Musicianship

Sight singing is a fundamental skill that enhances musicianship, deepens our understanding of musical structure, and refines our ability to hear and interpret music with accuracy and confidence. Throughout this session, we will draw from time-honored pedagogical approaches and well-established resources, including 31 Bach Chorales, Strategies and Tools Encouraging Proficient Sight Singing, Sound Thinking Volumes 1 & 2, One-Minute Singing Drills, Sight Singing Exercise Book, and Inner Hearing.

Our goal is to strengthen the essential skills needed for proficient sight singing—interval recognition, rhythmic precision, tonal stability, and inner hearing. We will explore the rich harmonic language of J.S. Bach through his chorales, using them as a foundation for understanding voice-leading, phrasing, and harmonic function. Additionally, we will implement structured strategies and targeted drills to reinforce fluency in melodic reading, sight-reading independence, and audiation, all of which are crucial for developing well-rounded musicianship.

Whether you are a beginner looking to build confidence or an advanced singer refining your skills, this session will offer tools and techniques to elevate your sight-singing ability. Engage actively, trust your inner ear, and embrace the challenge of sight singing—it is not just about reading notes but about bringing music to life with accuracy and expression.
